Who reviews what

A diocese reviews only if it participates in Compass; otherwise the national committee does.

Diagram described in words below.

In words: applications go to the Scout's home diocese (not where the group met); groups go to the host diocese; unit awards need one approval from the first available of diocese, region chair, or national.

Signing in

Every adult account needs a verified email address and an authenticator app (for example Google Authenticator, Microsoft Authenticator, or 1Password). Save your recovery codes somewhere safe; each code works once.

Lost your phone? Sign in with a recovery code, then set up the authenticator again under Account security.

Security keys

The Catholic Scouting America vice chair, Religious Emblems Committee chair, and Catholic Scouting America program director must also use a physical security key. If you lose your key, another national keyholder can authorize a replacement after signing in with their own key.

Statuses you may see

  • Awaiting review: a reviewer has not decided yet. Nothing is needed from you.
  • Returned for changes: read the reason, correct the item, and submit again.
  • Waiting for parent: a parent must confirm the invitation in Compass before the registration becomes active.
  • Ready, some sources pending: your export is available but a connected system did not respond; try again later.

Contact us

Questions about emblems, facilitators, committees, unit awards, scholarships, shop orders, or your account: tell us what it is about and your message goes to the right national team, who will reply by email. For something about one diocese, your diocesan committee may answer faster: find it in the diocesan directory.

Lost or damaged emblems

The committee chair can approve a replacement to buy in the shop. For an emblem earned in Compass, choose Replace a lost emblem on the Scout's page. For one earned before Compass, sign in and ask for a replacement with proof, such as the certificate, the emblem card, a photo, or a letter from a chaplain or leader.

Help us translate

Catholic Scouting America is committed to faith, family, and adventure. Because faith is handed down in families, we're working to make our programs and resources available in more languages so young people and their families from every background feel at home here. This work reflects the Church's universal character and our worldwide family of faith.

We need volunteers to translate and review resources, especially in Spanish, Vietnamese, Haitian Creole, Korean, Tagalog, Portuguese, and French. We welcome help in other languages, too.

You don't need to be a professional translator. If you can read a draft in a language you know well and tell us whether it sounds natural and is easy for children and families to understand, you can help.
